Watch the presentation HYMEHC-x – The Thermal Metal Hydride Compressor by HYSTORSYS that was given by Sales and Marketing Manager Jón Björn Skúlason in the Technical Forum on Thursday, April 10:

Opening of the Innovation zone of the HyNor Lillestrøm station
Today marked an important step forward in our development of the metal hydride compressor. The first compressor, HYMEHC-10 (10 Nm3/h), was formally put into operation – i.e., for testing and demonstration. It is a part of the Innovation Zone of the HyNor Lillestrøm station which was formally opened today (see press release here).

The compressor will now be integrated as part of the refuelling station, compressing hydrogen from 10 to 200 bar. The compressor has many advantages over traditional mechanical compressors as it has almost no moving parts, very low noise, is flexible in size and has very low energy consumption. During the opening event, HYSTORSYS' CEO Jon Eriksen gave a presentation discussing the innovation and advantages of the new compressor (the slides can be seen here).

Already we have built another compressor, HYMEHC-5 (5 Nm3/h), which will also be used for testing and demonstration in the coming months. The main design criteria for the compressors is industrial use where they can be used for compressing back-up hydrogen or providing up to +200 bar of pressure for different applications.

The HyNor Lillestrøm hydrogen filling station - Phase 1 - was opened
In this first phase, hydrogen is produced on-site by means of electrolysis. In Phase 2, reformer technology from Institute for Energy Technology (IFE) and a MH-compressor from HYSTORSYS will be installed. More...
Ulf Hafseld enters upon the CEO position
Hafseld is also the CEO of HYOP AS that took over the hydrogen filling stations from Statoil in the beginning of May this year. Former CEO Jon Eriksen continues in HYSTORSYS as Manager R&D and Projects.
HYPROCOM: Ranked as the 7th best project amongst several hundred other Eurostars proposals.
HYSTORSYS will develop integrated metal hydride (MH) compression systems together with the Norwegian research partner Institute for Energy Technology (IFE), the Dutch SME company HyGear (manufacturer and supplier of small scale, on-site hydrogen generators) and the Dutch branch of Air Products (one of the world largest industrial gas companies).
